2016 Tesla Model X

The 2016 Tesla Model X was a revolutionary leap forward, bringing supercar performance and spaceship-grade technology to the family SUV segment. In its launch year, the Model X stunned the world with its Falcon Wing doors, which use dual hinges and ultrasonic sensors to open in tight spaces with only 30 cm of side clearance. Underneath its aerodynamic shell lies a standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that provides instant torque and relentless traction. For the Canadian driver, the Model X was one of the first EVs to prove that a battery-powered car could handle a deep-winter commute while delivering a 0–100 km/h sprint as fast as 3.4 seconds in the P90D variant.

Tesla reimagined every aspect of the SUV experience, starting with the Panoramic Skyview Windshield—the largest piece of glass in production at the time—which offers an unobstructed view of the sky and the road ahead. The interior is dominated by a 17-inch vertical touchscreen that controls everything from the air suspension height to the "Self-Presenting" front doors, which automatically open as you approach the vehicle and close when you step on the brake.

Safety was a cornerstone of the 2016 Model X design, earning it the first-ever 5-star safety rating across every category for an SUV. It introduced the world to Bioweapon Defense Mode, a medical-grade HEPA air filtration system that removes 99.97% of particulate exhaust pollution and allergens from the cabin air. For the adventurer, it was the first electric vehicle capable of towing 5,000 lbs, making it a viable option for hauling boats or trailers. With its ability to receive Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, a 2016 Model X often has more features today—such as improved Autopilot and entertainment apps—than it did the day it was delivered.
