Nothing says “treat yourself” like a speciality box, delivered straight to your door, with some curated surprises inside. From non-alcoholic wine to eco-friendly items for the home, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite subscription boxes that are ready to land on your doorstep.
For the Eco-Friendly Homeowner
Kick off the warm weather with the environment in mind. Local Vancouver company Essentials Eco was founded by Brielle Hamalainen in 2021, and champions everything sustainable and non-toxic for the home. Quarterly subscription boxes arrive on your doorstep with the goal of helping you reduce your footprint—and support Canadian businesses while you’re at it. Past Essentials Eco box highlights have included microfibre Mint Cleaning cloths, Nature’s Bodega wool dryer balls, and Fern + Petal lemon essential oil for furniture polishing—and so much more.
For a Booze Break
Canadian company Acid League blends art, design, gastronomy, and sobriety together for their oh-so-stunningly bottled Proxies—well-balanced blends of juice, spices, tea, and bitters for a wine substitute that won’t have you missing the real thing. (As one of their taglines puts it perfectly: “Free of alcohol. Full of complexity.”) Sign up for their Proxies Club to receive six of their bottles, four times a year. Whether you go for crisp and herbal blends, or lush and aromatic, the ever-changing roster will delight even the sober skeptics in your life.
For the Local Wine Lover
BC wine lovers can now join an exclusive subscription through the just-announced La Maison Osoyoos Larose list. The limited-membership program will give lucky subscribers three shipments per year that focus on one incredible, well-known Okanagan wine—Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin. Well known among wine critics, this Bordeaux blend has been hailed as “a rose in the desert”, and was first launched in 2001. Those lucky enough to secure membership will receive exclusive access to pre-releases of each vintage, as well as library wines going back more than a decade, and large format bottles. We’ll cheers to that!
For the Healthy At-Home Foodie
Time saved in the kitchen could be the greatest self-gift of all. Purveyors of all things healthy and delicious, local company Tractor Foods serves up curated boxes of chef-prepared meals for those wanting to eat healthy with minimal effort and maximum comfort; think soups, stews, salads, baked goods, and more. The best news? You don’t have to live in the heart of the city for delivery, because Tractor delivers to Vancouver, Abbotsford, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Delta, Langley, Maple Ridge, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver, and West Vancouver.
From California For the Sparkling Wine Fanatic
Are you all about the bubbles, no matter the occasion? The Sip is a California-based, Black women-owned sparkling wine subscription service that ships to Canada, and promises a delicious delivery of 2-3 different champagne and sparkling wines to your door bimonthly. With a goal to democratize the champagne industry, the company’s signature Sip Boxes pair up legacy brands, like Roederer, alongside BIPOC and women-owned brands like B. Stuyvesant.
Subscription boxes are the gift that keeps on giving throughout the year, and there’s no time like the present to give yourself a present. Treat yourself!
